The House on Fire ruins are located off Utah State Route 95. There are two roads to view the ruins. The lower road is a BLM dirt road that leads down to the canyon. The trailhead starts from the road (called Mule Canyon trailhead) and leads to the ruin, which you can walk up to.
The trail is pretty flat, but quite the hike. Bring water if hot. Once you pass the large rock to the left (last picture above), you should watch out for it ahead. Walk around the trail a bit more to get to a spot that is easy to climb. There is a slot to the left that leads out to the other side. We did a little exploring, but there is nothing more over there.
The main trail leads further up the wash and there are some minor ruins that you have to search for. We did not continue any further because we had other sites to visit (that’s on our future bucket list). There is an old ammo box filled with things that normally go on a placard. It’s a BLM site, so it’s a little more than I expected but less than a national park.
After hiking this trail, If you continue up the road, there is a paved loop that goes to an Anasazi ruin (called the Mule Canyon ruin). This is a paved walkway and easy access.
Behind the dry toilet is the beginning of a trail that winds around the ridge line. If you follow this trail, you can get an overlook view of the house of fire.
