Parts of the Eagle Falls trail require a permit. It’s free and you can fill it out at the trailhead. There are several trails that split off. The main trail goes up to Eagle Lake. A split-off from that trail called the Velma Dicks trail goes up the side of the mountain, giving a view looking down at Eagle Lake.
The last two images above are from Eagle Loop. It was a tiny diversion that has a lookout to Lake Tahoe. Then back to the bridge and Eagle Lake.
At the split-off, to the right is Eagle Lake, and to the left is up and over the lake.
After visiting the lake, we walked back to go up Velma Dicks trail.
That was as far as we went. The sun went behind the peaks on the other side of the valley, so we didn’t want to risk breaking out the headlamps. The Velma Dicks trail loops back around (and probably crosses the saddle part of the peak). It comes back out into another trailhead parking lot up the road. The rest of this trail is on our bucket list for now.
