Aztec Butte is a trail and rock scramble that my wife and I had on our bucket list since the first time we visited Canyonlands. If you’re going to hike this trail, you’ll want to bring gloves and wear shoes that have a sticky grip. The slick-rock surface is very steep and difficult to climb.
The last image in this sequence is as far as my hiking shoes could go. There were quite a few people that couldn’t make it past this point. Michelle made it up (I should have handed her my camera). We’ll be returning to this hike in the future (I’m looking at climbing shoes that I can put in my backpack. LOL).
After this climb, we returned to go to the pantry/grainery. Located on the smaller butte.
The climb for this butte is easy. Once the trail ends, you need to go down the edge of the cliff to reach the adobe structures.
