Goblin Valley State park is an excellent place to take your family to run around and climb on hoodoos. There is an overlook where you can see the large collection of hoodoos from up high. A stairway descends to the valley where there are no official trails.
The Goblin’s Lair can be reached from the Carmel Canyon trail. The trail wraps around the back side of the ridge that surrounds the valley. We walked the trial until we ran into a steep climb up boulders into a pocket. We exited through another path down a different boulder scramble on the other side.
After that crevice, the trail continues around to another area where you can climb up to a slot in the ridge. When we climbed around these two areas, we were uncertain what we were looking for. After we left the park and obtained a cell signal we looked up information about the lair. There is a tunnel through one of those ridges that drops into a cave. I was unable to find a really good site that describes precisely where the opening is. The next time we visit, we’ll search to find the openings and I’ll post details on this blog.
