The National Museum of American History is a very large place. If you plan to visit this museum (and I highly recommend it), plan on spending your entire day here. We spent most of the morning, saw most of the exhibits and called it quits because we were tired from walking around. If we ever get the chance, we’ll return for another visit.
Something else you must keep in mind: There are exhibits that are on display for limited time or they can be removed for maintenance purposes. You can check on-line to see what is on display. I only mention this because we wanted to see Dorthy’s slippers (it’s a bucket list thing) and they were not on display the day we visited.
We started on the lower level where history starts at power generation. Then steam power moves into water transportation.
