Old rag is one of the most challenging trails in the region. The complete trail is an 8 mile loop.
Old rag starts as a 2,000 foot climb through a steep forested path. Near the peak the forest gives way to a rock scramble that goes along the ridge. We started our hike late because it took longer to drive her than we expected. Parking can be an issue and this is a well traveled hiking trail. If you hike this trail in the summer, there will be crowds. Don’t let these pictures fool you, there were quite a few people on the trail going both ways when we hiked it. There were a lot of people at the ridge resting on the rocks as well.
This is where the rock scramble starts. We made it to the slot, but turned around because we were worried about the amount of daylight left. We only hiked about 1/3 of the trail.
